1. We are only told the name of the film right at the end of the trailer. This is because paramount wants to attract I wider audience, and the name of the film might put people off immediately – so instead they get the viewer excited about the film and THEN reveal the name.
2. We are told the director pretty early on in the trailer because they are considered “very cool” and some people might watch the film just because of J.J. Abrams.
3. In the trailer, they make it seem very action packed and less sci-fi. This is to attract I wider range of audiences and also to show off the astounding special effects.
4. The trailer tells small snippets of the story, like how it is all about CP trying to live up to his father, and how Nero (the bad guy) is starting an attack that seems impossible to defeat. This described right at the beginning of the trailer and shown right at the end (scene of the ship being bombarded with countless missiles).
5. These scenes were included in the trailer because it shows a little of most genres (there is something for everyone). It mostly shows action and sci-fi, but it also shows a little romance. The trailer shows allot of special effects because many people might go see it in the cinema because they were impressed by it.
6. The music throughout most of the trailer is fast, with a strong beat. There is not any non-diegetic music, and because of this it portrays the films as an action.
7. All the voices of the people talking in the film are male – this may be because men are generally perceived as the ones who are dominant and always take action. They say little bits that explain the story line to the viewer, and also recap on what happened in the last Star Trek movie – so that people who haven’t watched the first one before don’t feel they need to before watching the new one.
